Belleville East, O’Fallon collect first round wins at Collinsville Prairie Farms Classic
Belleville East forward Eric Wade was truly the chairman of the boards Friday during the opening round of the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Basketball Classic.
Wade scored 12 points and added a career- high 22 rebounds as the Lancers held off Decatur MacArthur 63-57 in the third of eight first round games at Collinsville High School.
The Lancers (6-4) used a 19-13 advantage in the fourth quartet to break away from MacArthur (3-6) as they move into a quarterfinal round game against Lincoln on Saturday.
‘Sophomore Braxton Stacker led the Lancers with 22 points and eight rebounds. Ethyn Brown chipped in with 15 points for East.
In other games at the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic
O’Fallon 54, Althoff 50
O’Fallon (9-1) trailed entering the fourth quarter but outscored the Crusaders (2-7) down the stretch to move into a quarterfinal round game with undefeated Mundelein.
Shaun Riley III led O’Fallon with 15 points while junior Mason Blakemore added 10. Althoff senior Will Ache led all scorers with 18 points.
Mundelein 53, Granite City 36
One of three undefeated teams entering play Friday, Mundelein (11-0) got 17 points from Trey Baker as it rolled past the Warriors\.
Jahkeis Tippett led Granite City with 14 points.
Lincoln 52, Triad 36
Perennial central Illinois power Lincoln (10-0) held Triad in check as they defeated the Knights in a first round game. Will Ewald led a balanced Lincoln attack with 18 points, while Nate Winslow (10 points) paced Triad
The Knights fall to 8-2 for the season.
Decatur Eisenhower 48, Edwardsville 46
Eisenhower (6-3) erased a halftime deficit with a big third quarter as it moved into a quarterfinal round game against host Collinsville.
Behind Brennan Weller (22 points), Edwardsville (5-4) held a three-point lead at halftime before Eisenhower outscored the Tigers 22-16 in the third period to go on for the victory.
RJ Walker led Eisenhower with 21 points.
Collinsville 68, Oakville, Mo. 41
The host Kahoks (10-0) barely broke a sweat as they rolled into the quarterfinals with the lopsided win over Oakville (3-4).
Senior all-state guard Ray’Sean Taylor led all scorers with 21 points while Keydrian Jones added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Centralia Holiday Tournament
Chatham-Glenwood 52, Belleville West 42
Greg Wells scored 19 points but it wasn’t enough to prevent the cold-shooting Maroons from falling in a second round game at Centralia High School.
The Maroons (4-6), who opened tournament play with an easy win over St. Louis Confluence Academy, manages just 22 points in the first three quarters. West will play Mundelein Carmel in a consolation round game at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Normandy Holiday Tournament
East St. Louis 61, Memphis (Tenn.) University High 29
The Flyers held Memphis without a field goal in the first quarter as they rolled into the title game with the easy win
Macaleab Rich and Lashawn Johnson led the Flyers with 15 points each. Riding a four-game winning streak, East St. Louis will take on nhost Normandy in the title game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Columbia-Freeburg Holiday Tournament
It will be the Columbia Eagles taking on the Marquette Explorers in the title game after both teams finished up pool play with 3-0 records on Friday at Columbia High School.
The championship game is set for 6:30 p.m
Freeburg will play Civic Memorial in the third place game at 5 p.m. Gibault takes on Valmeyer in the seventh place game at 2 p.m. and will be followed by Lovejoy playing Waterloo in the fifth place game at 3:30 p.m.
Columbia (7-4) clinched a title game appearance by defeating Civici Memorial 54-34.. Jonah James (16 points) and Jackson Holmes (12 points) paced the Eagles attack.
59th Mater Dei Christmas Tournament
Okawville 54, Highland 33
Jackson Heckert scored 22 points and the Rockets blew open a close game with a 20-8 spurt in the fourth quarter to post the convincing win. Mason Meyer added 10 points for Okawville which is 1-2 in the pool play event.
Highland (2-10) falls to 0-3 in tournament play.
Mater Dei 47, Okawville 41
The second seeded and host Knights (10-3) remain undefeated in the pool play event.
Nashville 39, Wesclin 22
The top-seeded Hornets (10-2) appear headed towards a showdown with Mater Dei as they move to 3-0 in pool play with the 17-point win over the Warriors
Pinckneyville Duster Thomas Classic
The Carlyle Indians (5-5) rolled into the tournament semifinals on Friday, edging Union County (Ky.) 66-49 in a second round game. The Indians will take on host Pinckneyville on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Pinckneyville, ranked second in the Class 2A state poll, defeated Salem 59-33 while Mount Carmel defeated Jerseyville 50-40 in a winners bracket game n Friday.
Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament
Marissa 54, Cobden 45 The Meteors one-two punch of Sebastion Ivory-Greer and Logan Jones combines for 42 points as Marissa (7-4) moved into the third round with the win over the Appleknockers.
Marissa will take on Goreville in a semifinal round game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
