Boys basketball roundup: O’Fallon, Mater Dei, Triad post big victories

Here is a brief recap of Saturday’s boys basketball action.

O’Fallon defeats Ladue

The Panthers improved to 15-3 with a solid 62-49 non-conference win against Ladue at Kirkwood.

Mason Blakemore paced O’Fallon with 15 points, while Amarey Wills added 13 points. Leading just 18-17 after a quarter, the Panthers outscored Ladue 19-10 in the second quarter to post a 37-27 halftime bulge.

Next up: The Panthers resume action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at De Smet.

East St. Louis falls to CBC

The Flyers dropped a tough 68-62 non-conference home verdict to CBC.

East St. Louis (10-6) led 18-9 after a quarter and led by five entering the final eight minutes. The Cadets, however, outscored the Flyers 22-11 in the fourth quarter to prevail.

Next up: East St. Louis resumes action at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, against Highland at the Salem Tournament.

Mater Dei edges Effingham St. Anthony in thriller

The Knights defeated host Effingham St. Anthony 59-58 in overtime.

Mater Dei (15-4) was outscored 17-11 in the fourth quarter but regrouped in the extra session to prevail. Jacob Schadegg led the Knights with 18 points, while Caleb Zurliene added 15 points and Mitchell Haake scored 11 points

Next up: Mater Dei faces Metro-East Lutheran at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Nashville Invitational Tournament.

Other action from Saturday

  • Waterloo fell at Chester 50-47. The Bulldogs are 7-12 and will resume action at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Sparta Tournament.
  • Triad defeated Mount Zion 72-41 at the Litchfield Tournament. The Knights improved to 13-5 and next play at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, against Greenville at Litchfield.
  • Highland fell to Carnahan 70-48 at Cleveland. The Bulldogs fell to 2-15 ahead of their contest against East St. Louis on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Salem.
  • Carlyle suffered a 53-32 setback at Salem in a Cahokia Conference tilt to fall to 7-11. The Indians next face Roxana at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Okawville Invitational.
  • Nashville dropped to 17-4 following a 41-33 loss at Carbondale. The Hornets resume action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Brentwood, Missouri.
