Collinsville senior earns Associated Press first team all-state basketball honors

Collinsville High School senior Ray’Sean Taylor headlines a list of five metro east area players named to the Associated Press Class 3A-4A All-State Basketball teams.

A 6-1 guard, who led the Kahoks to a 31-3 record and first outright Southwestern Conference title since 1996, was honored as a Class 4A first-team all-state selection in voting done by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from around the state.

The all-state teams were released on Thursday.

Edwardsville senior Brennan Weller was a Class 4A honorable mention all-state selection. In Class 3A, East St. Louis seniors Armond Williams and Jashawn Anderson along with Triad senior Luke Cox were honorable mention all-state selections.

Taylor, along with Williams and Anderson, had their seasons end last week when the Illinois High School Association canceled the remainder of the postseason due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Taylor broke Tom Parker’s career scoring record at Collinsville and finished his four-year Kahoks career with 2,167 points. The leading scorer in the SWC, Taylor averaged 23.6 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and three steals per game.

Headed to SIU Edwardsville, Taylor was an honorable mention all-state selection a year ago.
