No No. 1’s, but metro-east boasts three No. 2’s in new boys basketball state rankings

Metro-east boys basketball teams Althoff, Central and Okawville all held down the No. 2 spots in their respective classes when the new Associated Press state rankings came out on Wednesday.

Althoff (14-2 through Tuesday) was second in Class 3A, Central (16-2) was second in 2A and Okawville (15-3) was second in 1A.

Edwardsville (13-3), which has won its last six games, moved up from eighth to seventh in the new Class 4A state rankings while Belleville East (12-4) broke in at No. 14.

Nashville (13-6), which has won seven straight, was 13th in Class 2A. Gibault (13-6) was 12th in Class 1A.

The top-ranked teams in the state are Chicago Curie (14-3) in 4A, Morgan Park (14-2) in 3A, Winnebago (15-1) in 2A and Colfax Ridgeview (16-2) in 1A.
