Althoff moves up to 24th in MaxPreps national basketball rankings

After becoming the first Belleville high school basketball team to crack the Top 25 national rankings last week, regional champion Althoff (27-2) moved up from 25h to 24th in the MaxPreps XCellent 25 national poll.

Althoff, which has won 15 in a row and is the top-ranked 3A team in the state, will face South Seven Conference rival Mount Vernon (19-10) in the 3A Highland Sectional semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Crusaders beat Mount Vernon twice during the regular season.

The only other Illinois team in the MaxPreps national rankings is No. 23 Chicago Simeon (26-3). Chino Hills (31-0) from California is the top-ranked team again this week.

Althoff ripped Highland 81-56 on Friday to win the Triad Regional. The Crusaders haven’t lost since an 81-66 defeat against 19th ranked Chaminade (26-3) and Duke recruit Jayson Tatum at the Highland Optimist Shootout.

Althoff’s top scorers is junior Division I prospect Jordan Goodwin (17.7 points, 12 rebounds per game), recently added an offer from Indiana and a football offer from Iowa to his growing list of Division I offers. It was Goodwin’s first Division I football scholarship offer.

The Crusaders also boast Southern Illinois University Carbondale recruit Brendon Gooch (13.9 ppg), Illinois-Chicago recruit Tarkus Ferguson (13.5 ppg) and junior Division I prospect Marvin Bateman (11.5 ppg) along with junior guard C.J. Coldon (11.3 ppg) and senior guard and Jackson State football recruit Keenen Young (8.1 ppg).
