Players from Okawville, Central, Nashville and ME Lutheran top 1A-2A all-state basketball list
Okawville High junior Noah Frederking was the lone metro-east player to earn first-team all-state honors Thursday when The Associated Press announced its Class 1A and Class 2A Boys Basketball All-State teams.
Central senior Logan Kohrmann, Nashville senior Royce Newman and Metro-East Lutheran senior Teddy Fifer each made second-team all-state. Voting was done by a state-wide panel of sportswriters and other media members.
Frederking, a 6-foot-4 junior guard, averaged 20.4 points and helped the Rockets reach the 1A sectional final. The Division I prospect also averaged 8.2 rebounds and had 51 3-pointers and 54 steals.
Kohrmann (18 ppg) is the top scorer for the Central Cougars (30-4), who will face St. Joseph-Ogden (22-9) in the semifinals of the Class 2A state tournament on Friday in Peoria. The 6-2 senior guard averaged five rebounds and also had 54 3-pointers. He is receiving Division II, NAIA and junior college recruiting interest.
The 6-foot-7 Newman signed with Ole Miss to play football. Newman averaged 17 points and nine rebounds and helped the Hornets to a second-place finish at the state basketball tournament as a sophomore.
Fifer, a 6-1 senior guard, led Metro-East Lutheran in scoring by averaging 19.5 points with 57 3-pointers. The Knights lost to Gibault in the regional final.
Earning Class 2A honorable mention all-state status were Roxana senior guard Trace Gentry (18.4 points, 5.5 reounds per game, 107 3-pointers) and Marquette senior guard Shandon Boone (19.2 ppg, 48 3-pointers).
A trio of Gibault players all earned Class 1A honorable mention all-state honors. They were senior forward Brian Deterding ((15.5 points, 8.7 rebounds per game), junior forward Trevor Davis (15.6 points, 9.1 rebounds per game) and senior guard Jacob Rueter (10.3 points, 5.8 assists per game).
Gibault reached the 1A Jacksonville Super-Sectional before losing to Liberty.
