Central’s Kohrmann joins Okawville’s Frederking and Nashville’s Newman as first-team all-state picks

Central High senior Logan Kohrmann, Okawville junior Noah Frederking and Nashville senior Royce Newman all were first-team all-state selections Saturday when the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association released its Class 1A-2A All-State Team.

Kohrmann averaged 18 points as the leading scorer for the Cougars, who reached the Class 2A state tournament for the first time since winning the 2012 state title. He also averaged five rebounds and has 58 3-pointers.

Frederking is a 6-foot-4 junior who averaged 20.4 points and 8.2 rebounds with 51 3-pointers for the Rockets, a sectional finalist.

AP 1A and 2A All-State Teams

The 6-7 Newman averaged 17 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets. He signed with Ole Miss in football and will play offensive tackle for the Rebels.

Marquette senior guard Shandon Boone made second-team all-state and Gibault junior Trevor Davis made third-team all-state. Central Cougars junior Jack Strieker was chosen for the fourth-team all-state group.

Earning special mention all-state honors were Connor Toennies from Carlyle, Wesclin senior guard Jarad Steenbergen, Metro-East Lutheran senior guard Teddy Fifer and Roxana senior guard Trace Gentry.
