Red Bud tops Freeburg behind quarterback
Red Bud quarterback Griffin Ziebold passed for 129 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for another 121 to lead the Musketeers to a 34-21 win over Freeburg Friday.
The win was a big one in the Cahokia Conference for Red Bud (3-2), which evened its record last week with a win over Salem. Freeburg, after opening the season with a big win over Sparta, has now lost four straight.
Ziebold opened the scoring a 31-yard run then found Seth Bass on a 47-yard scoring strike that put Red Bud on top 13-0. The Musketeers never looked back.
Alex Birchler caught second quarter touchdown passes for seven and 42 yards and Ziebold a 5-yard scoring run in the fourth.
Hayden Shea scored twice for Freeburg on runs of 19 and five yards. Zach Pluff scored the other Midget touchdown with a 14-yard run.
Freeburg (1-4) next faces Columbia Friday at 7 p.m. Red Bud will be in Breese to face Central.
