Here’s a look at the area playoff picture in Week 8
With their IHSA playoff tickets punched, the undefeated Wesclin Warriors and Highland Bulldogs look to lock up conference championships Friday as the high school football season heads into its home stretch with week eight contests.
Wesclin (7-0) will attempt to clinch its first outright Cahokia Conference championship when it hosts Central on Friday while Highland (7-0) will attempt to wrap up its fourth Mississippi Valley Conference championship in the past five years when it travels to Mascoutah.
Two of six local teams along with Triad, East St. Louis, Marquette and Althoff — all with 6-1 records — which have clinched playoff spots, the Warriors and Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways heading into the announcement of first round playoff pairings Oct. 21.
While six teams from the metro-east have qualified for the postseason, 12 teams — including nine with 5-2 or 4-3 records — still have hopes of either reaching the required six wins or earning five wins and enough playoff points to earn a postseason spot.
