East St. Louis wraps up undefeated SWC season by beating Alton

East St. Louis senior Jigg Brown got his team off and running with an 8-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and the Flyers wrapped up an undefeated Southwestern Conference championship with a hard fought 22-19 win over Alton.

Antonio Johnson added a 12-yard interception return for a score, while Eric Johnson chipped in with a 1-yard run in the third quarter for the Flyers (8-1, 7-0).

East St. Louis begins a defense of its Class 7A state championship next week when the IHSA playoffs begin.

The Redbirds (5-4) will await the IHSA playoff pairings Saturday to see if they are in the postseason.
