East St. Louis wide receiver picks up scholarship offer from Big Ten university
The scholarship offers keep pouring in for the Class 6A state champion East St. Louis Flyers and their group of future NCAA Division I wide receivers.
Less than a week after helping to lead the Flyers to their ninth state championship, thee-star recruit Dominic Lovett announced on his Twitter feed this week that he has received a scholarship offer from Purdue University.
Ranked as the No. 7 college recruit in Illinois by 247 Sports, the 5-10, 175-pound Lovett ended his junior season with 73 catches for 1,541 yards and 16 touchdowns. Lovett had five receptions for 118 yards and two scores in the Flyers’ 43-21 win over Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge in the Class 6A state title game Saturday in DeKalb.
Lovett has scholarship offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Louisville and West Virginia.
Teammates Lawaun Powell and Keontez Lewis also have several offers. A senior, Powell (5-11, 185), ranked as the No. 20 player in the state for the Class of 2020,, has narrowed his choices to Illinois, Iowa State and Nebraska. Powell also has offers from Kansas and Kentucky among others.
Lewis (6-1, 175), ranked 19th in the Class of 2021 by 247 Sports, has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska and Purdue, among others.
The fourth member of the Flyers standout quartet of wide receivers, Antonio Johnson, is headed to Texas A&M University. The 6-3, 180-pound Johnson is the No. 8 high school safety in the nation.
