Running back is the latest East St. Louis Flyer to land D-1 football scholarship offer

One of the key players in the East St. Louis offensive juggernaut the past two years, senior running back DaMonta Witherspoon, has picked a scholarship offer from Murray State University in Murray, Ky.

The 5-8 208 pound Witherspoon made the announcement on his twitter account on Monday. The premier running back in the Southwestern Conference, Witherspoon is a 3-star recruit and ranked as the No. 38 college prospect in the Class of 2020 by 247 Sports.

Witherspoon also has scholarship offers from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Michigan, Eastern Illinois and Southern Mississippi.

He led the entire St. Louis area in scoring with 35 touchdowns and 234 points in helping the Flyers finish 14-0 and win the Class 6A state championship this past season.

Witherspoon was also fourth in the St. Louis area with 1,742 yards in 2019. The past two years, the Flyers top back scored 56 touchdowns and ran for more than 3,000 yards

Several other Flyers standouts have either signed scholarship offers or are being heavily recruited by NCAA Division I programs according to 247 Sports.

Antonio Johnson, Safety, has signed with Texas A& M.

Kevon Billingsley, defensive tackle, has committed to Missouri.

Javontez Spraggins, offensive Lineman, has signed with Tennessee.

Lawaun Powell, wide receiver, has narrowed choices to Illinois, Iowa State and Nebraska.

Dylan Appleton, wide receiver, has offers from Indiana State, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois.

Darius Walker, linebacker, has signed with Illinois State.

Class of 2021

Dominic Lovett, wide receiver, has offers from Illinois, Purdue, West Virginia, Louisville, Iowa State.

Keontez Lewis, wide receiver, has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue, SIU-Carbondale, Southern Mississippi, Texas A@M., Minnesota.

Tyler Macon, quarterback, has offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Central Michgan, Kent State, Indiana, Iowa, Southern Mississippi, Western Michigan.
