East St. Louis all-state quarterback makes his college choice. Find out who he picked.

East St. Louis junior quarterback Tyler Macon will soon become a Missouri Tiger.

The reigning Belleville News-Democrat Large School Offensive Player of the Year and No. 21 overall prospect in Illinois for the Class of 2021 by 247 Sports, Macon announced on his twitter account recently he has given a verbal commitment to attend and play college football at the University of Missouri beginning in the 2021 season.

The 6-1 185-pound Macon is the second Flyers all-state player to either sign with or commit to the Tigers and new head coach Eliah Drinkwitz. Defensive lineman Kevon Billingsley will be a freshman at Missouri in 2020.

A two-year starter for coach Darren Sunkett’s Flyers, Macon was one of the top players in the state as he led East St. Louis to a perfect 14-0 record and Class 6A state championship in 2019.

Macon finished the season with 4,241 passing yards and 827 yards on the ground as he became just the second player in state history to account for over 5,000 yards of total offense (5,068) in a single season. He passed for 39 touchdowns and ran for 17 more.

The Flyers put the finishing touch on the ninth state title in school history in November when they defeated Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge 43-21 in the championship game played at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb.

Macon had over a dozen scholarship offers including ones from Central Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Western Michigan and Southern Mississippi.
