Metro-east results: O’Fallon, East St. Louis faced long road trips in Week 3 games
Week 3 of the metro-east football circuit kicked off Friday night. Here is a brief round-up of some local games.
O’Fallon vs. Waubonsie Valley
O’Fallon went on the road and posted an easy 40-0 victory against Waubonsie Valley.
OTHS improved to 3-0.
The Panthers start SWC play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Edwardsville.
East St. Louis vs. Creekside, Georgia
The Flyers made the trek to Georgia but suffered a tough 10-8 loss.
Christopher Bennett Jr. returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown for East St. Louis’ only score. TaRyan Martin added the two-point conversion run. The gave the Flyers an 8-7 lead in the first quarter. However, Creekside posted a field goal in the third quarter and made that stand up.
East St. Louis dropped to 1-2.
The Flyers are back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Belleville East in the Southwestern Conference opener for both teams.
Collinsville vs. Alton
The Kahoks faced their old Southwestern Conference foe and coasted to a 47-0 home victory.
Collinsville improved to 2-1 while Alton fell to 0-3.
Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, as Collinsville visits Charleston at Alton opens SWC action at Belleville West
Granite City vs. Champaign Central
The Warriors suffered a tough 18-13 home loss to Champaign Central.
Granite City, which droped to 0-3, next plays at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at home against Madison.
Columbia vs. Alton Marquette
The Eagles improved to 2-1 with a 2-0 forfeit win against the Explorers, who fell to 0-3.
Columbia next plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at home against Roxana. Alton Marquette is scheduled to host Mater Dei at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.
Mascoutah vs. Centralia
The Indians overcame a 28-7 halftime deficit and outscored the visiting Orphans 30-0 in the second half to post a 37-28 come-from-behind home win and improve to 3-0.
Zane Tilmon rushed for three touchdowns in the second half, while also firing a 33-yard touchdown to Allen Middleton to spark the comback. Tilmon also ran in a 2-point coversion, while Middleton returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in the first half.
Mascoutah commences Mississippi Valley Conference action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Waterloo.
Freeburg vs. Chester
The Midgets eased to a 3-0 record with a 28-6 home victory against the Yellow Jackets.
Freeburg resumes action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at home against Breese Central.
Highland vs. Marion
A 28-point second quarter helped buoy the Bulldogs to a 55-14 home romp against the Wildcats.
Highland quarterback Brent Wuebbels threw for three touchdowns, including two to Brenden Gelly and another to Brode Lewis. Meanwhile, Travis Porter rushed for four touchdowns while Tyson Rakers added another rushing score.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 2-1, begin MVC action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Jerseyville.
Waterloo vs. Carbondale
The Bulldogs surged to 2-1 with a decisive 35-14 home win against the Terriers.
Waterloo led at halftime and never looked back in improving to 2-1.
The Bulldogs kick off MVC play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at home against Mascoutah.
Triad vs. Mount Vernon
The Knights saw a 12-0 lead slip away in a 27-22 home loss to the Rams
Triad, which fell to 1-2, open MVC action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Civic Memorial.
Cahokia vs. Peoria
Cahokis fell to 1-2 following a 62-16 home loss to Peoria.
The Comanches open South Seven Conference action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Marion.
Red Bud vs. Breese Central
The Cougars led 9-6 after three quarters and then put up an eight-spot in the fourth quarter to defeat the Musketeers 17-6.
Following a safety to make the score 11-6, Darrell Wann scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to secure Breese Central’s victory.
The Cougars improved to 2-1 while the Musketeers dropped to 2-1.
Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, as Breese Central visits Freeburg and Red Bud travels to Carlyle.
Edwardsville vs. Soldan
The Tigers face Soldan at noon Saturday, Sept. 10.
The Tigers start SWC play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at home against O’Fallon.
