Waterloo, Collinsville, Highland post wins in Week 6 of high school football action

Week 6 of the metro-east football circuit kicked off Friday night. Here is a brief round-up of some local games.

Waterloo at Jerseyville

The Bulldogs coasted to their fourth-straight win, dispatching the Panthers 42-6.

Koby Osterhage and Gavin Lich each had a blocked punt recovery in the end zone for Waterloo while Evan Davis posted two touchdown runs and Osterhage and Aidan Morrow each had one rushing score.

WHS is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Both teams resume conference action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Waterloo hosts Highland in a battle of league leaders and the Panthers entertain Triad.

Civic Memorial at Highland

The Bulldogs cruised past the Eagles 65-0 while improve to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Civic Memorial is now 1-5, 0-3.

HHS quarterback Brent Wuebbels had four touchdown passes in the first quarter, while Travis Porter and Dylan Beadle added rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, helping lead the Bulldogs to the decisive win.

Both teams resume conference play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Highland visits Waterloo and the Eagles visit Mascoutah.

Mascoutah at Triad

The Knights rolled to a 34-14 triumph agains the Indians and improved to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the Mississippi Valley Confernece. Mascoutah dropped to 4-2, 1-2.

Tristan Darby’s 8-yard fumble return for a touchdown set the tone for the Knights, pushing them ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. Jake Stewart added a pair of field goals for the Knights, while Nic Func and Ryan Hazelwood each posted touchdown runs.

On the Mascoutah side, Zane Timon hit Quincy Hall with a pair of touchdown passes of 54 and 22 yards.

Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the the Indians entertain Civic Memorial and the Knights visit Jerseyville.

Breese Central at Salem

The Cougars rolled to a 49-12 road win, upping their record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference.

Breese Central quarterback Conner Freeze threw for three touchdowns while Anthony Attaway rushed for two touchdowns and Chase Lewis and Maximus Rogers each had rushing scores.

Both teams are back in action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Breese Central — winners of four straight — hosts Roxana and Salem visits Columbia.

Freeburg at Roxana

The Midgets dropped to 3-3 overall, 0-3 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference with a 36-13 loss to the Shells.

The loss was Freeburg’s third-straight following a 3-0 start.

Both teams resume play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Freeburg hosts Wood River and Roxana entertains Breese Central.

Columbia at Wood River

Columbia saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 22-13 loss at Wood River.

The Eagles dropped to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference. The Oilers improved to 5-1, 1-1.

Dominic Voegele had both scores for CHS.

Both teams are back in action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Columbia hosts Salem and Wood River visits Freeburg.

Red Bud at Dupo

Red Bud had little trouble improving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Illinois Division of the Cahokia Conference, dispatching Dupo 40-0.

Nick Gantner rushed for three touchdowns to pace the Musketeers while Jarrelle Nesbit and Trace Wagner each had rushing scores. Thomas Friess also connected with Devin Hall for a touchdown pass.

Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Red Bud visits Wesclin and Dupo travels Chester.

Collinsville at Granite City

The Kahoks rang up their fifth-straight victory against former Southwestern Conference foe Granite CIty.

Collinsville won 40-0 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Kahoks visit Mount Zion and Granite City travels to Mater Dei.

Mater Dei at Du Quoin

Mater Dei improved to 3-3 with a 27-19 win against the Indians.

The Knights will host Granite City at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.

Edwardsville at Alton

The Tigers cruised past the Redbirds 51-6 to improve to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the Southwestern Conference. Alton dropped to 1-5, 1-2.

Both teams resume SWC action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Tigers host Belleville East and the Redbirds visit East St. Louis.

Centralia at Cahokia

The Orphans won their third-straight game with a 14-0 decision against the Comanches while improved to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in the South Seven Conference

The Comanches dropped to 2-4, 1-2.

Both teams resume conference play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Comanches visit Mount Vernon and the Orphans host Marion.
