High school football week 6: Here’s a look at the big games in the metro-east

Week 6 of the high school football circuit in the metro-east will kick-off Friday night with two Southwestern Conference games slated for Saturday. Below is a snapshot of some notable conference games around the area, along with several key players to watch.

On Friday night, the BND will also post game results from around the region. We will update the scores list as we get results throughout the evening.

On Saturday morning, we will also post a game by game recap from around the region; plus we will have separate coverage of some individual games on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Here’s a look at Friday night and Saturday afternoon games:

O’Fallon at Belleville East

Records: O’Fallon is 4-1 overall, 1-1 in the Southwestern Conference. Belleville East is 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the SWC. Alton is 1-3, 1-0.

Kickoff: 1 p.m. Saturday.

Most recent game: The Panthers lost to East St. Louis 60-21. The Lancers defeated Alton 33-14.

Next game: Both teams resume league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as O’Fallon visits Belleville West and East travels to Edwardsville.

O’Fallon players to watch: QB Colt Michael (84-138, 1,227 yards, 15 TD); WR Jalen Smith (30 catches, 549 yards, 9 TD).

East players to watch: WR Armon Vinson (7 catches, 100 yards, 3 TD); WR Jordan Pickett (11 catches, 158 yards).

Edwardsville at Alton

Records: Edwardsville is 4-1 overall, 1-1 in the SWC. Alton is 1-4, 1-1.

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday.

Most recent game: Edwardsville beat Belleville West 70-0. Alton lost to Belleville East 33-14.

Next game: Both teams resume league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as Edwardsville hosts Belleville East and Alton visits East St. Louis.

Belleville West at East St. Louis

Records: East St. Louis is 3-2 overall, 2-0 in the SWC. Belleville West is 0-5, 0-2.

Kickoff: 1 p.m. Saturday.

Most recent game: East St. Louis defeated Belleville East 60-21. Belleville West lost 70-0 to Edwardsville.

Next game: Both teams resume league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Flyers host Alton and the Maroons entertain O’Fallon.

Marion at Althoff

Records: Althoff is 2-3 overall, 0-2 in the South Seven Conference. Marion is 3-2, 1-1.

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday.

Most recent game: Althoff lost to Centralia 16-7. Marion lost to Mount Vernon 32-20.

Next game: Both teams resume league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Crusaders host Carbondale and Marion visits Centralia.

Centralia at Cahokia

Next game: Both teams resume league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Comanches travel to Mount Vernon and Marion visits Centralia hosts Marion.

Mascoutah at Triad

Records: Mascoutah is 4-1 overall, 1-1 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Triad is 2-3, 1-1.

Most recent game: Mascoutah beat Jerseyville 49-14. Triad lost to Highland 35-0.

Next game: Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the the Indians entertain Civic Memorial and the Knights visit Jerseyville.

Waterloo at Jerseyville

Most recent game: Waterloo beat Civic Memorial 40-0. Jerseyville lost to Mascoutah 49-14.

Most recent game: Highland beat Triad 35-0. Civic Memorial lost to Waterloo 40-0.

Collinsville at Granite City

Next game: Both teams resume action at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, as the Kahoks visit Mount Zion and Granite City travels to Mater Dei.
