Versatile Breese Central star high school player of the week in southwest Illinois
Chase Lewis of Breese Central High School is the winner of the latest Belleville News-Democrat Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
Lewis, a senior, fullback/linebacker/kicker, collected 6 solo tackles and 10 assists while blocking a point after in a come-from-behind, 20-13 win against Roxana on Oct. 7. He also rushed for a touchdown, went 2-for-2 on extra points and boomed 4 punts for 140 yards.
Lewis — who secured 43% of the votes — entered Friday’s action with 7 rushing touchdowns and 3 touchdown receptions to go with 13 catches for 183 yards. Lewis also had 33 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 27 assists and 1 fumble recovering heading into Friday night’s contest against Columbia. Additionally, Lewis had 26 punts for 796 yards — a 30.62 yard-per-punt average.
Here were the other candidates for the week of Oct. 3-8:
- Dominic Voegele, Columbia High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Voegele threw for touchdowns passes of 40, 59 and 8 yards and rushing for 2 scores — including one for 95 yards — in a 44-7 win against Salem. Voegele completed 7-10 passes for 165 yards and the 3 touchdowns while also rushing 5 times for 123 yards and 3 touchdowns. He posted an interception and 6 tackles as well.
- Allen Middleton, Mascoutah High School, senior, wide receiver/defensive back. Middleton grabbed touchdown passes of 19 yards and 36 yards while posting a 46-yard touchdown run in a 50-6 win against Civic Memorial.
Braden Revermann, Breese Central High School, senior, wide receiver/defensive back. Revermann caught 8 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in a 20-13 win against Roxana.
Kylie Kisgen, Freeburg High School, senior, libero. Kisgen helped piled up 136 digs while playing outstanding defense in leading the Midgets to six victories. She also was voted to the all-tournament team at the Quincy Tournament.
Charleston Coldon, Althoff Catholic High School, sophomore, wide receiver/defensive back. Coldon caught 4 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in a 10-7 loss to Carbondale.
Jerry Richardson, Collinsville High School, senior, running back/defensive back. Richardson rushed for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns while amassing 370 all purpose yards in a 34-7 win against Mount Zion.
Kolby Anderson, Collinsville High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Anderson had 4 tackles and 2 interceptions against Mount Zion.
Mondray Crume, Collinsville High School, senior, wide receiver/defensive back. Crume posted 14 tackles, including 1 tackle for loss against Mount Zion.
Brent Wuebbels, Highland High School, senior, quarterback. Wuebbels completed 10-of-13 passes for 129 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 49-10 win against Waterloo.
Travis Porter, Highland High School, senior, running back. Porter rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in the victory against Waterloo.
Colt Michael, O’Fallon High School, senior, quarterback. Michael completed 9-of-14 passes for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 48-8 win against Belleville West.
Kaleb Randolph, O’Fallon High School, senior, defensive lineman. Randolph posted 7 solo tackles, 2 assists and 1 sack against the Maroons.
Logan Stevens, Dupo High School, senior, running back/defensive back. Stevens rushed 179 and 2 touchdowns on 12 carries and also grabbed 8 receptions for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 53-30 loss to Chester.
