East St. Louis star offensive lineman Henderson flips commitment to Illinois

Illinois’ unexpected football success this fall continued to reap dividends Tuesday.

Three-star East St. Louis offensive lineman Brandon Henderson flipped his commitment from Iowa State to Illinois, becoming the second member of the 2023 class from East St. Louis to do so. Antwon Hayden, a three-star linebacker, also is an Illinois commit.

Henderson posted this on social media Tuesday: “Thank you to the Iowa State staff and coaches for the opportunity, but I will be flipping my commitment to the University of Illinois.”

At 6-3, 250 pounds, Henderson has helped anchor the East St. Louis offensive line this fall as the Flyers ready for an IHSA Class 6A state semifinal game against Lemont on Saturday.

According to 247Sports, Henderson is the No. 82 offensive tackle prospect in the Class of 2023 and the No. 16 prospect in the state of Illinois. Henderson had committed to the Cyclones this past summer.

Henderson is the Illini’s 19th commitment in the Class of 2023 and the seventh in-state prospect to join the Illini in the Class of 2023, 247Sports noted.

Despite a recent two-game losing streak, the Illini — stationed at 7-3 — are set to have their best regular season since going 9-4 and reaching the Rose Bowl in 2007.
