Metro-east teams set dates and times for first-round of football playoffs

Fifteen teams from the metro-east will represent all eight enrollment classifications in the 2024 IHSA State Football Championship Playoffs, which begin with first-round games this weekend.

Those teams include Althoff Catholic, Belleville East, Breese Central, Cahokia, Collinsville, Columbia, Dupo, East St. Louis, Edwardsville, Highland, Nashville, Red Bud, Roxana, Triad, and Waterloo. All hope to wind up at Hancock Stadium on the campus of Illinois State University for the championship weekend Nov. 30.

Pairings were announced Saturday night with the conclusion of regular season play. Dates, times and locations were released Monday.

Here’s the schedule for local teams:

Class 8A

No. 21 Belleville East (6-3) at No. 12 Loyola Academy (7-2) in Wilmette, 6:30 p.m. Friday

No. 19 Edwardsville (6-3) at No. 14 York (7-2) in Elhurst, 6 p.m. Friday

Class 7A

No. 29 Collinsville (5-4) at No. 4 Batavia (8-1), 6 p.m. Friday

Class 6A

No. 16 Springfield (5-4) at No. 1 East St. Louis (8-1), 2 p.m. Saturday

Class 5A

No. 13 Morris (5-4) at No. 8 Triad (7-2), 6 p.m. Saturday

No. 12 Marion (6-3) at No. 5 Highland (6-3), 7 p.m. Friday

Class 4A

No. 16 Harrisburg (5-4) at No. 1 Breese Central (9-0), 2 p.m. Saturday

No. 14 Taylorville (5-4) at No. 3 Waterloo (8-1), 1 p.m. Saturday

Class 3A

No. 9 Tolono Unity (6-3) at No. 8 Roxana (7-2), 2:30 p.m. Saturday

No. 13 Olympia (6-3) at No. 4 Nashville (8-1), 2:30 p.m. Saturday

Class 2A

No. 16 Red Bud (5-4) at No. 1 Johnston City (8-1), 1 p.m. Saturday
