The biggest strengths for Mater Dei is at receiver and the backfield, where numerous starters return.

The big impact players are senior receiver Josh Haberer and running back-receiver Brendan “Butchie” Timmermann.

OFFENSE

Junior Collin Schuetz replaces Sam Toennies at quarterback. Schuetz completed 28-of-57 passes last season in spot duty when Toennies was injured, throwing for 393 yards and four TDs with five interceptions.

Senior Brady Rakers led the team with 683 yards rushing and 11 TDs a year ago and looks bigger, stronger and quicker.

Senior Dawson Ratermann and Timmermann also will get carries in the backfield.

Haberer is one of the top small-school receivers in Southern Illinois.

Other receiving threats include 6-foot-6 -inch senior tight end Jordan Kampwerth, Brendan Timmermann, junior Jake Timmermann and senior tight end-receiver Blake Langenhorst.

The offensive line includes senior left tackle Joe Heimann, Connor Thole, Nolan Seelhoefer and center Jason Martz. Trent Feldmann is at right guard with Mason Toennies at right tackle.

DEFENSE

Senior Sam Krebswill move from linebacker to defensive end. Seelhoefer is back at nose guard with Feldmann at defensive end and Thole also on the line.

Rakers returns at linebacker with senior Trevor Feldmann and Jacob Dumstorff also handling linebacker slots.

There’s a lot of speed in the defensive backfield, with cornerbacks Becker, Jack Alberts and Ratermann plus Mitchell Freund and Mitchell Wiegmann. The safeties are Trevor Johnson and Jake Timmermann along with Theising.
