Highland cracks AP Top 10 state football rankings; metro-east well-represented again

After spending nearly all of last season in the Associated Press Top 10 state football rankings, the Highland Bulldogs are back again in 2015.

Highland (3-0) cracked the Class 5A Top 10 at No. 10, one spot behind Mississippi Valley Conference rival Triad (3-0).

Edwardsville (3-0) moved down one spot from fifth to sixth in Class 8A despite remaining unbeaten, while East St. Louis (2-1) held on to the No. 4 slot in Class 7A.

Four metro-east teams in the Class 4A rankings were led by No. 4 Althoff (3-0). Also in the Top 10 was No. 8 Columbia (3-0), while Central (3-0) came in at No. 13 and Mater Dei (1-2) was 20th.

Nashville (3-0) moved up to fifth in Class 2A while River-to-River Conference rival Sparta (3-0) enjoyed a little love from the statewide panel of voters, coming in at No. 16.
