Wesclin fullback Jason Robinson made sure the Warriors earned a spot in the state football playoffs by posting his third straight 200-yard rushing night.
Robinson erupted for 250 yards and five touchdowns on only 19 carries Friday as Wesclin eliminated Carlyle from playoff contention with a 42-0 victory.
The win moved Wesclin to 6-3 and the Warriors earned their first state playoff berth since 2008.
“He’s had a great season in the last three weeks. He’s our catalyst, no doubt,” Wesclin coach Ric Johns said of Robinson. “He just keeps getting better every week. I think Carlyle knew what they were going to have to do, but when he’s bringing it like he was tonight he’s pretty danged hard to stop. We’re getting pretty good blocking, too.”
Wesclin was 0-9 two years ago and 2-7 in 2014, but now finds itself in the playoffs
“It means a heck of a lot,” Johns said. “To watch this team and the program progress the way it has is tremendously satisfying. These are such good kids and a good community.”
