Cards’ McGee will appear at Gateway opener

Opening day for the Gateway Grizzlies on May 13 is a night all baseball fans want on their calendar. Former St. Louis Cardinal Willie McGee will visit GCS Ballpark for a special appearance.

McGee, the longtime Cardinal star, will be participating in special events throughout the night.

For $100, fans can purchase a special VIP ticket that includes an all-inclusive suite ticket. The VIP ticket also includes a meet and greet with McGee, a 30 minute question and answer session, a commemorative photo opportunity, a guaranteed autograph (one per ticket) and an all-you-can-eat buffet and unlimited beverages until the end of the seventh inning.

McGee is one of the most beloved figures in St. Louis history, spending most of his18 years in the major leagues in a Cardinal uniform. He was the National League Most Valuable Player in 1985 and won two league batting titles. A four-time All-Star, McGee also won three Gold Gloves and played in three World Series with the Cardinals. During his rookie season, he turned in one of the greatest games in the franchise's post-season history in Game Three in 1982 when he hit two home runs and also made a home run-saving catch in centerfield.

McGee was recognized for his accomplishments by becoming part of the inaugural class elected to the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.

The Grizzlies will take on the Washington Wild Things on opening night in the first of the three game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets start as low as $10 and the game will be followed by a cool fireworks display.
