Grichuk, Cooney lead Cards past Braves
Randal Grichuk made it back-to-back games with a two-run homer and Tim Cooney registered his first major-league victory Friday in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 4-2 triumph over the Atlanta Braves before 44,778 at Busch Stadium.
How it went
Grichuk’s home run in the second against Manny Banuelos (1-2), his 11th of the season, made it 2-0. Jhonny Peralta had an RBI single in the third and Mark Reynolds drove in a run with a single in the fourth. Cooney (1-0) allowed two runs (earned) on five hits, walked none and struck out five in seven innings. Kevin Siegrist pitched the ninth and logged his fifth save as the Cardinals (62-34) moved 28 games over .500 for the first time this season.
