Piscotty’s RBI in eighth gives Cardinals their fifth consecutive win

Pinch-hitter Stephen Piscotty drove in the only run of the game with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly that lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. The run made a winner of Carlos Martinez, who outdueled former teammate Shelby Miller. Randy Choate recorded his first save since May 26, 2012, against San Francisco.

By the numbers

Martinez (11-4) worked eight shutout innings, walked one and struck out six. Miller (5-7) pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits. He walked two and struck out four. ... The RBI for Piscotty was his first in the big leagues. ... The Cardinals (63-34) are 29 games above .500 for the first time this season and are 36-12 at Busch Stadium. ... Miller hasn’t won in his last 12 starts despite an ERA of 2.27 ERA.
