Cubs break out against Lynn, blank Cardinals

Lance Lynn couldn't survive three innings Monday, surrendering six runs (all earned) before departing in the St. Louis Cardinals' one-sided loss to the Chicago Cubs. Former Cardinal Dan Haren (9-9) threw seven shutout innings, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Dexter Fowler homered against Lynn to open the game and Addison Russell had a three-run shot against Seth Maness in the third to make it 8-0.

Lynn (11-9) permitted seven hits in 2 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out two ... The Cardinals (87-50), who still lead second-place Pittsburgh by 5 1/2 games, have lost four of five. ... Chicago had 12 hits, two apiece by Fowler, Chris Coghlan and Starlin Castro. ... The Cardinals' best chance to get back into the game was in the fourth when they loaded the bases with one out, but Jon Jay fouled out to third and Mark Reynolds lined out to right.
