The 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, which started last Thursday, provided plenty to watch for metro-east baseball fans.

A 17-year-old shortstop from Puerto Rico was the first of nine players taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in a draft that has drawn positive reviews of media and baseball insiders. Two local players got the call while two others elected to continue their playing career in college instead.
