Cardinals place Adams on disabled list, recall Grichuk
First baseman Matt Adams was placed on the disabled list by the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, retroactive to Wednesday. Adams is suffering from left shoulder inflammation.
The Cardinals have recalled outfielder Randal Grichuk from Class AAA Memphis.
Grichuk, 24, is batting .213 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs in 84 games with the Cardinals. He twice has been optioned to Memphis, and is batting .250 (7-for-28) with the Redbirds.
Grichuk owns a career .248 batting mark with 32 home runs and 90 RBI in 234 games with St. Louis.
Adams is batting .249 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in 95 games. He is among the best pinch-hitters in baseball with a .385 average (10-for-26) that includes two home runs and nine RBIs.
St. Louis opens a four-game series at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Thursday.
