What's that Tony La Russa? You've decided not to retire after all?
Former La Russa foe and Cardinals Vice President in charge of Statistical Voo Doo Jeff Luhnow has been hired by the Astros as their new general manager. I think I may weep. Nope. It passed.
Luhnow is the guy who was going to save the Cardinals by employing Moneyball principles to rebuild Bill DeWitt II's dream of a super cheap competitive team of faceless interchangeable parts. And then he served up draft day gold like selecting Pete Kozma (.237 minor league batting average through five minor league seasons) in the first round, and he tried to force hot house flower Colby Rasmus down our throats.
My only disappointment about this announcement is the fact that Houston will be moving out of the National League Central and into the American League. But at least Luhnow will be re-united with his other pet, Brett "The Next Babe Ruth" Wallace. Well, he would be if Wallace can escape the minor leagues after hitting a total of SEVEN homers while batting .248 with 141 strikeouts in 480 at bats for Houston.
