The Twins have announced that they have signed former Cardinals infielder Joe Thurston.
Capable of playing second base, third base and the outfield corners, Thurston was released by Philadelphia earlier this week. The 32 year old utility player hit .207 with the class AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs before getting his walking papers. He didn't appear in a major league game this year.
He is a career .226 hitter with one home run in The Show. He's played for the Dodgers (2002-04), Phillies (2006), Red Sox (2008), Cardinals (2009) and the Marlins (2011).
With St. Louis he hit .225 with four stolen bases. And that lone home run came with the Birds on Bat across his chest.
