Cahokia native Terron Armstead nominated for NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award
One of the top offensive lineman in the National Football League, Cahokia native Terron Armstead spends most of his Sunday afternoons and an occasional Monday night protecting Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
The 6-5, 309-pound Armstead spends much of his free time giving back to the city of New Orleans.
A 2009 graduate of Cahokia High School now in his sixth season as the Saints’ left tackle, Armstead has been named as the team’s nominee for NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
The recognition is for players nominated by their teams for showing exemplary on-field performance and off-the-field strength of character.
Armstead, 28, has been a leader in charitable activities in the New Orleans community. He recently gave gifts of several dozen bicycles to children at the DePaul Community Youth Center and often uses his off-day visiting schools and hospitals.
Armstead also participates in his teammates youth football camps during the offseason.
Armstead attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and was a third round selection by the Saints in the 2013 NFL Draft. The Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner will be announced during the week leading up to Super Bowl LIV.
