Chiefs players offer thoughts on Twitter about George Floyd’s death and protests
On Friday, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker expressed sadness about the death of George Floyd and the protests and unrest that soon followed.
Floyd, an African-American, died shortly after being detained by police in Minneapolis. Video showed an officer had his knee on Floyd’s neck for what the Hennepin County Attorney said was 8 minutes and 46 seconds, per USA Today. That includes 2 minutes and 53 seconds after Floyd was non-responsive.
“It’s super sad,” Butker told reporters on Friday. “I can’t even get through that whole video. It’s very heartbreaking.”
Protests that began in Minneapolis soon spread all over the nation, and the Washington Post reported more than 25 governors had called in the National Guard and people in more than 30 major cities were under a curfew Sunday night. That included Kansas City.
