With Chiefs trailing Bills, coach Andy Reid tells Patrick Mahomes: ‘Be the Grim Reaper’

A frantic celebration broke out on the north sideline inside an Arrowhead Stadium that fell otherwise silent Sunday night. The Bills had taken a three-point lead against the Chiefs in their AFC Divisional playoff game and left Patrick Mahomes all of 13 seconds to answer.

Too much time.

On the other sideline, as the Chiefs encountered a situation that looked, well, grim, coach Andy Reid described a message for his quarterback.

“When it’s grim,” Reid said. “Be the Grim Reaper.”

You know the rest.

Mahomes completed a pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill and then another to tight end Travis Kelce, setting up Harrison Butker’s game-tying field goal as time expired.

And after that game-tying drive, Mahomes led the game-winning drive in overtime, an 42-36 instant classic that might be the best game this stadium has hosted.

And a death blow to the Bills season.
