Chris Jones is signed for this season and will be with the Chiefs in practice this week — and at their road game on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

His holdout cost him fines and a large game check. The maximum value of his new one-year deal, if incentives are reached, is a tidy $25.2 million.

But it’s not a long-term deal, and it might be challenging for Jones to hit all of the incentives contained in this new pact. So, who got the better of the deal?

On today’s episode of SportsBeat KC, The Star’s sports podcast, beat writers Jesse Newell and Blair Kerkhoff join columnists Sam McDowell and Vahe Gregorian in breaking down the details of the contract and what it means for Jones and the Chiefs.

Also, the crew analyzes issues that materialized in the Chiefs’ opening-game loss to the Detroit Lions and looks ahead to Sunday’s game vs. the Jags. For example, did Travis Kelce’s absence make that much difference last Thursday against the Lions? In short, they say, yes: it did.
