Blues beat Oilers in season opener
Robby Fabbri's first NHL goal broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period Thursday and helped the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 victory over Edmonton in the season opener at Scottrade Center.
Troy Brouwer added a late empty-net goal in his Blues debut and Vladimir Tarasenko scored on a breakaway. Fabbri's goal came at 9:29 of the third period after taking a drop pass from Jori Lehtera.
Blues goalie Brian Elliott stopped 23 of 24 shots.
Scoring
The Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the first period when a clearing attempt by Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo bounced into the net off of teammate Alexander Steen. Edmonton's Ryant Nugent-Hopkins was credited with the goal.
Tarasenko tied it on a breakaway goal at the 9:10 mark of the second period, then goals from Fabbri and Brouwer clinched the win.
