Adopt Mooster: The ‘chubby, quirky lover-girl’ is an ideal lounge cat
This week’s BND Pet of the Week is Mooster, a 5-year-old female Domestic Shorthair cat. Her unique name originates from looking more like a cow, thanks to her black and white spotted coat.
Mooster is the ideal lap cat and loves to cuddle. She loves to be cuddled and scratched all over, licking at the air if you find the right spot on her back. Melissa Janes, the Social Media Coordinator and animal handler at the Belleville Area Humane Society, doesn’t bother fighting Mooster’s affection, rather lets her just climb into her lap every time she opens the cage to clean or brush her.
“She’s chubby and quirky,” Janes said. “She’s really a cuddler, like she’ll keep you warm in the winter time.”
“She may need a little time to get used to you but pretty quickly she became a real ‘lover-girl.’” Janes added.
The ASPCA’s Meet Your Match program identifies animal’s personalities based on how they react to different situations such as being left alone, introduced to other animals or entering a room.
Mooster’s personality was identified initially as a ‘private investigator,’ implying that she is a cat who would watch from afar and really analyze the situation around her. The shelter thinks that spending time with the workers - and occasionally being coaxed with treats - Mooster is much braver cat and understands the full benefits being social can offer.
“She really came out of her shell pretty quickly,” Janes said. “Just lots of affection and time, patience. She's pretty adjustable as long as she has her space at first, but she'll come around and want affection pretty quickly.”
Mooster is most comfortable when she can rule the house, most likely as the only pet in the family. She is the typical low-key cat that is at her best with a full tummy and a long day of lounging in the sun.
“She's affectionate and silly and loves her treats,” Janes said. “That’s pretty much Mooster.”
