Two killed while sitting in car after multiple shots fired into vehicle
Two men were shot and killed early Monday morning while sitting in a vehicle in the 800 bock of Success Court.
The men were identified as 26-year-old Larry Hardy Jr. and 21-year-old Kentrez T. Williams, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mike Lewis said the two men were sitting in a Chevrolet Impala outside of a residence at 836 Success Court when someone fired multiple gunshots into the vehicle they were in.
East St. Louis police received a call reporting shots fired and a man down at 12:01 a.m., according to Lewis. When East St. Louis officers arrived, they found the two individuals inside of the vehicle, Lewis said. Dye confirmed that Hardy was the driver of the vehicle.
Police did not know why the two men were in the area.
Police are in the early stages of an investigation and are currently working to identify the shooter, Lewis said. According to Lewis, police have not made any arrests nor has a motive been established.
East St. Louis requested assistance from Illinois State Police to investigate the double homicide.
