Two killed in head-on semi versus motorcycle crash in Southern Illinois

Two people were killed in a head-on motorcycle versus tractor trailer crash in Southern Illinois on Saturday.

A driver and passenger, whose identities have not been released by police, were on a motorcycle on Illinois Route 148 at about 6:51 p.m., according to an Illinois State Police press release.

According to the release, the motorcyclists were driving southbound on Route 148 near Pigeon Creek Road when they switched into the northbound lane.

A tractor trailer, driven by a person whose identity was not released by police, in the northbound lane hit the motorcycle head-on, killing both people.

According to the release, the motorcyclists were improperly changing lanes and the tractor trailer driver could not have avoided hitting them.
