Police investigating fatal shooting in Caseyville
A 24-year-old man from Festus, Mo., died from a gunshot wound just prior to 2 a.m. Saturday in Caseyville.
Police are investigating it as a homicide, but no one had been arrested as of midday Saturday. The investigation is being conducted by Illinois State Police.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said Caseyville Police responded to a call reporting a shooting at 130 Cankelly Lane.
“Upon the officer’s arrival, a 24-year-old white male was located with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a Belleville-area hospital where he later died,” Doiron said.
The man’s last known address was in Festus, Mo., Doiron said
Doiron said it is early in the investigation and there is limited information available about what happened.
“We are interviewing a number of potential witnesses at the police department to determine what happened,” Doiron said.
He declined to say give details of the shooting.
“I can't discuss any items of evidence or a motive,” Doiron said.
