IDOT plans lane closures on Martin Luther King bridge

Workers this weekend and next week plan to have eastbound lane closures on the Martin Luther King Bridge, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.

From 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday, both eastbound lanes on the bridge are scheduled to be closed.

Overnight closures are scheduled to continue during the week, IDOT said.

On Monday through Friday of next week, both eastbound lanes are scheduled to be closed from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day.

From Wednesday through Friday, only one eastbound lane will be reopened at 6 a.m.

The closures are necessary so workers can install scaffolding in advance of the upcoming work to repair the bridge, IDOT said.

A marked detour is planned to be in place to guide motorists around the work zone, IDOT said.
