Woman dies in single-vehicle accident at curve in road along Illinois 15 highway

A 67-year-old woman died late Friday in a car accident at a curve in the road on Illinois 15, according to authorities.

Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger identified the crash victim as Darlene Eggemann of Addieville in a news release he issued Saturday.

According to the release, Eggemann was driving west on Illinois 15 in a late model GMC Canyon pickup truck and failed to negotiate a curve in the road, which means her vehicle kept going straight instead of along the arc of the curve.

The pickup truck struck a ditch, causing it to flip several times, according to Styninger’s release. Authorities believe Eggemann was not wearing a seat belt. She was ejected from the vehicle.

Styninger pronounced Eggemann dead at the scene east of Geisel Lane near Nashville at 11:34 p.m. Friday.

The Washington County Coroner’s office and Illinois State Police were still investigating the accident Saturday.
