Parolee who breaks into homes, fondles women cuts off ankle bracelet, disappears in Belleville
It was a Friday afternoon when a woman working at a medical office in the 100 block of South Third Street in Belleville spotted Larry Alverson in the parking lot performing an indecent act, police said.
It was sometime after that when Alverson cut off the ankle bracelet used by his parole officer to monitor his whereabouts and fled, said Belleville Police detective Sgt. Mark Heffernan. Police want to find Alverson quickly because of his criminal history, Heffernan said.
In 2003, Alverson, 40, was convicted of breaking into a Belleville home and fondling a sleeping 14-year-old girl while he was on parole for breaking into two other women’s homes and fondling them.
“He’s a dangerous guy,” Heffernan said.
Alverson pleaded guilty to home invasion for entering the rear window of a home in the 3000 block of North Fifth Street on Aug. 15, 2002. Once inside the girl’s bedroom, Alverson admitted that he crawled into bed with her, smelled her hair and rubbed his body against her. When the girl woke up, she cried for her parents, then Alverson muffled her mouth with his hands and tried to choke her, according to police.
Then-St. Clair County State’s Attorney Robert Haida said Alverson was charged with home invasion because that charge carries a longer prison sentence than a sex offense Alverson could have faced. Alverson received a 10-year prison sentence as part of the plea deal, but was not required to register as a sex offender.
At the time of the break-in, Alverson was on parole for breaking into two homes on South Jackson Street in Belleville and fondling two women as they slept. One of the women was sleeping next to her husband.
In 2014, Alverson was convicted of criminal trespass to a residence. No details were immediately available about that case. Alverson was released on parole June 26 from Pinckneyville Correctional Center.
Alverson was charged on Monday with the felonies of escape and criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor of public indecency with lewd exposure. His bail is set at $250,000.
Alverson is 5-feet, 10-inches tall and wieghts 165 pounds. He has a tattoo on his left upper arm that says “D/Zone.” Both of his ears are pierced. His left nostril is also pierced.
Anyone with information regarding Alverson’s whereabouts are asked to call the Belleville Police Department at 618-234-1212.
“We believe he is dangerous. He should not be approached. Anyone who spots him should call 911 immediately,” Heffernan said.
