Investigators probe crash that injured two in Columbia

Investigators are still working to determine what caused a serious car crash on Veterans Parkway in Columbia that left two teens injured Wednesday night.

According to Columbia Police Deputy Chief Jerald Paul, Katherine A. Brinkley, 26, of Waterloo was driving northbound on Admiral Parkway in a 2001 Lexus SUV when she entered the intersection with Veterans Parkway and collided with an eastbound 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by Brett Luther, 18, of Columbia.

A 17-year-old girl in the car with Luther was trapped as a result of the collision and was extricated by firefighters. A waiting ARCH helicopter transported her to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in South St. Louis County. Luther also was hurt and was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s by Monroe County EMS.

Paul said Brinkley did not require medical treatment. No citations had been issued as of Thursday night. Columbia Police and the Metro East Crash Assistance Team continue to investigate the crash.
