Garage fire claims two cars in West Belleville
No one was injured in a fire that burned down a detached garage and irretrievably damaged two cars Sunday evening.
The fire, at 240 Oliver Lee Drive just south of Main Street near Ace Hardware, was noticed by a neighbor, who knocked on the homeowners’ door to tell them.
About 18 firefighters, three pumper trucks, a rescue truck and a utility vehicle responded to the scene, including the help from the Northwestern Fire Department.
The fire was about 15 to 20 feet removed from the house, and no other structures were damaged. Other property caught in the fire included tools and other things you might find in a garage, Signal Hill Fire Department Chief Greg Render said.
The fire is still under investigation, he said. Signal Hill will return on Monday to gather more information.
