About 100 Alton residents have been informed by the U.S. Postal Service that mail they were expecting was thrown away.
According to the Postal Service, a temporary letter carrier decided it was too much of a hassle to deliver all the mail she was assigned. So she threw some of it into a dumpster and some of it into ditches and a field.
The missing mail was supposed to be delivered Jan. 23.
The worker quit after the incident. The case is still under investigation and the worker could face charges, according to the Postal Service.
