Tenants commit to $34 million Edwardsville development

A planned development on 26 acres near SIUE will feature a natural foods store, a deli and a craft beer bar.

Edwardsville Economic Development Director Walter Williams said Wednesday a Fresh Thyme grocery store will anchor the development. A Global Brew Tap House also will occupy the main construction and a McAlister’s Deli will occupy a building on an outlot on the property that’s located on Illinois 157 south of Governor’s Parkway, across the street from the SIUE entrance.

Other sites within the planned main construction as well as other outlots are still available.

To help recover costs of the development, Edwardsville city leaders will create a business district to surround the development. City council members approved that district—and an added 1 percent sales tax on all non-food, non-pharmaceutical items purchased within it—on Tuesday, Williams said.

Plocher Construction of Highland will build the $34 million project.
