A Facebook post made by the Belleville Police Department Friday said a pedestrian, now identified as Gray, tried to cross Illinois 161, 200 feet east of Frank Scott Parkway in Belleville shortly after 1 a.m. Friday. In the same statement, police said the driver of the eastbound vehicle notified police after striking the male victim, despite attempting to avoid the collision. The driver of the vehicle told police that he did not see the pedestrian in the roadway.
As of Monday, police say no citations or arrests have been issued, and the investigation remains ongoing.
