Fire burns down vacant house in Washington Park

Washington Park and State Park firefighters responded to a fully-involved house fire Friday night.

The fire was reported at the 5700 block of Hallows Ave. in Washington Park. Firefighters said they arrived on scene at 8:35 p.m. and found flames coming through the front and top of the unoccupied residence. The one-story house is one of several vacant houses located in the area.

Firefighters also said Ameren Illinois responded to the scene for a report of a downed power line.

Assistant Fire Chief Herb Simmons Jr. said there were no injuries in the incident and that the cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was heavily damaged as a result of the fire.

Washington Park police also responded to the incident Friday night.
