Vehicle catches fire near Mascoutah on I-64
A fully-involved vehicle fire was reported Monday afternoon on Interstate 64 near Mascoutah.
A four-door sedan was heavily damaged as a result of the fire, and no injuries were reported, according to the Mascoutah Fire Department. The fire was reported about 2:55 p.m. at mile marker 23. The car was parked on the shoulder.
Traffic heading westbound was backed up for nearly a mile as units worked the scene.
Illinois State Police also assisted.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
