Ava Hipskind, 17, is the daughter of Sheila Hipskind and Tim Hipskind. She moved to O’Fallon in 2009, where her passion for academics and dance has grown immensely.
She is so grateful to have the opportunity to be raised in such a beautiful, well-rounded city that has molded her into the hardworking and compassionate young lady she is today. She is beholden for this phenomenal opportunity to run for Miss O’Fallon.
In school, Hipskind receives good grades by working hard and challenging herself to be a better student every day. Hipskind is on honor roll, is a four-year member of the Golden Girls Dance Team, a three-year member of Spanish Club, a two-year Member of Wellness Club, and a three-year member of Friends of Rachel Club, a club that encourages kind acts throughout your every day life. These extracurricular activities have taught her discipline, time management, and organization.
In 2015, Hipskind was proud to be a part of the Golden Girls dance team success by winning two state titles at the TDI State Championship. In 2016, Hipskind was honored with the leadership roll as captain for the junior varsity dance team. Later that year, she helped carry her team to their humble success, coming home with a first- and second-place trophy at the IDTA State Championship. As her third year as a Golden Girl came around, she was once again honored with the leadership roll as captain of the junior varsity dance team before moving up to varsity that fall. Being a captain has taught her how to be a compassionate, devoted, and responsible leader. She was also privileged enough to help out the Golden Girls when they have volunteered their time helping the Kid’s Center at Susan G. Komen Relay for Life and taught dances at the summer dance camps they have held during the summer. Hipskind is grateful for the opportunity she has had with Golden Girls dance team and cannot wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for her.
Along with Golden Girls, Hipskind has had the opportunity to attend the Webster Dance Intensive at Webster University and the MADCO Dance Intensive at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where she trained to make her mentally and physically stronger as a dancer.
She has been dancing at Adams School of Dance in O’Fallon for six years, where she has learned her poise and gracefulness. She competes with the studio’s dance team at nearby regional competitions that have taught her that competition does not just create winners and losers; it builds strong personalities, resilience, determination, and a sense of humor and humility.
During the week, Hipskind volunteers her time student teaching acrobatic classes for young boys and girls in our community. Hipskind loves to see these children grow every week to reach success in their acrobatic skills. Student teaching has taught her patience and creativity on many levels.
Outside of school and dance, Hipskind has helped plant flowers at the Rock Springs Park. She enjoys helping out O’Fallon to make this city even more beautiful than it already is. She has also been volunteering her time at Gateway Regional Medical Center to help out the doctors and nurses there.
Hipskind believes that with positive thoughts, comes positive outcomes. She wants every child to know that even when life knocks you down, that courage and positive thoughts will lead you to achievement.
Hipskind plans on attending either the University of Missouri or the University of Alabama to major in chemical engineering with the hopes to one day help skin-care companies construct environmentally friendly products.
